Astral projection help?

Hey,
I have a question for anyone who practices in astral projection or any one who is willing to help me out that knows of this.
A friend of mine had told me about astral projection and that he was able to do it, and well I was intrigued that your able to leave your body and visit places. I do not wish to use astral projection for the heck of it, I want to see whats out there, maybe gain more information I dont already know.
I have been practicing for a while, but stopped and for a couple of months since I usually just drift off to sleep. But one night, I remember my body feeling really heavy, while my eyes were closed I saw these colors which looked like oil (you know how sometimes in parking areas you see oil spilled on the floor with swirls), but in black water (darkness of which I saw when my eyes were closed) and it felt weird no words can explain it. But, I spoke to my friend about it and he said I was right about there, I was about to project. But I have not yet gotten to where I was ever since.
If I do ever come to this state again, I want to prepare myself and actually astral project.
I’ve read that, just imagine rolling off like, your rolling out of your works. Along with imagine yourself leaving your body, but I tried those when I was at that state and nothing happened. I will try those techniques once again but if there is any other technique please let me know.

I think you suffered a small bout of Sleep Paralysis NOT Astral projection.

I have suffered from Sleep Paralysis since my young teens. It has a very similar feeling to floating and seeing what is going on around you but you cannot move your limbs.

It is often a scary experience, one you fight hard to come out of. Sometimes it isn’t a scary experience and you let yourself float away until you disappear into a deep sleep.

I do not suffer from these symptoms as often as I did in my teens and twenties. It happens about twice a year now as I know how to avoid it most of the time.

Hey, I know those swirls and their ineffability. . . they’re not especially associated with astral projection, more with meditation, but they do indicate you’re entering a near-optimal depth trance state, and it is possible to project using them. Once you’re perceiving them clearly, gently intend that they move to the center of your vision and slowly and smoothly pulse there, gradually gaining stability and accumulating a textured disk shape. Ideally this will end up as a vibrant indigo orb (third eye chakra colour) filling most of the visual field, but other colours aren’t unheard of. (If you’ve prone to temporary energetic blockages, you might find the blob developing at the center of your left or right eye’s field of view rather than dead ahead, but this lopsidedness won’t cause any other problems)

Once it’s large, tinted 3D visuals start becoming apparent within it (faces or drifting landscapes seem typical). The imagery isn’t constrained by the shape or position of the accretion disc, but your visibility of it is – in the black void around the ragged edges, the imagery will be conspicuously absent. Immerse yourself in the images just like you immerse yourself in a cinema screen, losing awareness of all context on the periphery. Very soon you’ll fall through the aperture and be projecting! This gave me quite a shock the first time, don’t startle yourself out of it. . .

Rolling out of your physical body is a valid and useful method, but the swirls method is bodyless so flipping rapidly from one mode to the other could be counterproductive. The swirls exist in a totally separate realm to your body, and straddling environments is hard work – just stick to the weirdest one available when you have a choice.

There are dozens of other methods out there. . . maybe you’d find ROPE a good alternative. Here’s a thumping great book that’s superbly informative, give it a read. . .
